Developing tools to promote health – The collaborative role of science and art

Scientists embark on projects using measures of exploration, imagination and theory to achieve a desired result. Artists often use a similar approach. Given that, it seems pertinent they should intersect and collaborate to provide health solutions.

This presentation explores (i) how science and art work together; (ii) how scientific information is contextualised within artistic images, words and sound; and (iii) how science and art are combined to develop resources fit for community health settings. Woodbridge Research specialises in health systems development and works with clinical and NGO frontline health services to achieve that.

The following presentation was delivered at ANGOA, Monday 23rd September 2013 (3pm – 5pm), Victoria University’s Railway West Wing Room 501.

In Wellington ANGOA is facilitated by Victoria University. ANGOA is a network of New Zealand civil society organisations active in areas such as health, education, the environment, youth, women, ethnicity, human rights, and international development. ANGOA strives to build cooperation and support between New Zealand civil society organisations.
